Our Story

A Small Guesthouse, Run by the Family Who Live Here

Rock Side Inn sits on the hillside just above Ella — close enough that town is a six-minute walk downhill, far enough that what you hear at night is the valley rather than the main street. Ten rooms, a garden, a shared lounge, and a terrace pointed straight at Ella Rock.

Dumindu and the family look after the place themselves: meeting the early train, cooking the rice and curry, and pointing out which trail to take before the cloud rolls in. Guests score the property 8.8 overall and couples give it 9.0 — the location and the welcome rate highest of all.

Ella, Straight from the Doorstep

The trail up Ella Rock starts a few minutes from our gate. Our tour desk arranges hikes, bike tours and bicycle hire, cooking classes and tuk-tuks to the Nine Arch Bridge — and we'll have breakfast packed if you're leaving before sunrise.

Nine Arch Bridge

The colonial-era viaduct standing in the jungle at Demodara, best timed for a train crossing. Walk there through the tea fields or take a tuk-tuk from the gate — we keep the train times at the desk.
